Moonta Community Library

Moonta Community Library officially opened in November 1979.

Situated in the main stone building at Moonta Area School the library is jointly funded by the Libraries Board of South Australia, the Department for Education and Local Government.  Moonta Primary School and Moonta High School combined in 1978 to form Moonta Area School, at which time both schools’ libraries were amalgamated. The Moonta Community Library was officially opened on November 30, 1979.

Libraries SA - For All Who Seek

Moonta Community Library is a part of the Libraries SA Network.

Our library is a wonderful space for both our school and wider community. We have collections and spaces for all, including inclusive programs for preschool families (Read and Rhyme Time) and creative members of our community (Crafter’s) as well as book lovers (Bookchat). Access to Wi-Fi, personal computers and print services, and our ongoing support of digital literacy for our community ensure we are contributing to providing a place “For All Who Seek”.

You can foster the love of libraries and reading with our wonderful Read and Rhyme Time program in the library. Laying strong foundations for early literacy development in babies and toddlers through the sharing of songs, rhymes, and stories each session is followed by play and craft, Read and Rhyme Time is on every Tuesday in the library.

During the school holidays we offer craft and construction activities in our makerspace as well as STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) based resources for self-monitored play and investigation. Children must be accompanied by an adult. With some wonderful resources on offer, you wouldn’t want to miss out anyway.

Our state-wide network working as one allows it members access to millions of resources physical and online. Books, DVDs, CDs and magazines alongside of digital applications Libby and Borrowbox (both offering a comprehensive collection of audio and ebooks). Items from our collection and the network can be reserved in the library or through the Libraries SA app or website, allowing ease of access to the millions of resources in our library’s collections. Truly an amazing network to be a part of.

Read and Rhyme Time

Nurture early literacy development in your toddler and meet other parents and families at Read and Rhyme Time.

Read and Rhyme Time sessions are held in the library during the school term. This is a wonderful opportunity to lay strong foundations for early literacy development in babies and toddlers through the sharing of songs, rhymes and stories. The opportunity to meet other parents and families is an added bonus of attending this literacy program.
